Flooring in Hillsborough, NJ

Our showroom is in Bridgewater, about fifteen minutes up Route 206 from the center of Hillsborough. Hillsborough is one of the largest townships in Somerset County at roughly 55 square miles, so depending on whether you are off Amwell Road, down near Neshanic, or up by the Bridgewater line, that drive runs anywhere from ten to twenty-five minutes. Either way, you can come see real samples at full size instead of guessing from a screen.

What do you need

What Hillsborough homes are usually like

Hillsborough and Bridgewater are neighbors, but the houses are not the same age. Bridgewater filled in mostly through the 1950s and 1960s, which is why so much of it is ranches, split levels and Capes. Hillsborough grew later. It went from under 4,000 people in 1950 to more than 43,000 by 2020, and most of that construction landed between the late 1970s and the 2000s.

In practice that means bigger homes on bigger lots. Country Classics went up between 1988 and 2020 and runs roughly 2,350 to 4,500 square feet, much of it on half an acre or more. Heritage Greens is two-story single family on quarter-acre lots with mature trees. Developments like these mean larger continuous floor areas, open sightlines between rooms, and more square footage per job than a typical 1950s Bridgewater ranch.

That changes a few things when you are choosing flooring. Wide open spans show plank width and run direction far more than small closed-off rooms do. And when one floor runs from the entry through the kitchen and into the family room, you are committing to a single material across a lot of square feet. Worth seeing full size before you order.

Downsizing in Hillsborough

Hillsborough has a real 55 and over market. Gateway at Royce Brook sits near Route 206, and Hillsborough Point is in the southern end of the township. Those are smaller footprints, often 700 to 1,250 square feet, and the priorities tend to be different: flat transitions between rooms, surfaces that are easy to keep clean, and carpet that is soft without being hard to walk on.

Carpet in Hillsborough

Most of the newer construction in Hillsborough is two-story, which means more bedrooms, more upstairs square footage and more stairs than a single-level Bridgewater ranch. That is where carpet does most of its work. Stairs in particular are worth measuring carefully, because a big open staircase in a Country Classics or Heritage Greens colonial eats more material than people expect.

We stock carpet in Bridgewater, so you can see it at full size before you commit. Shaw Lantern Bay is our heaviest in-stock carpet at 40 oz, and the color runs all the way through the fiber on that one, so it holds up to sun and cleaning better than most.

Vinyl plank in Hillsborough

The open first floors in Hillsborough's newer homes usually mean one material running from the entry through the kitchen and into the family room. Vinyl plank handles that well because it is waterproof and it comes in long planks, so you get fewer seams across a big span.

It is also the honest answer for anyone with pets, kids or a mudroom off the garage. We stock CoreTec Pro Classics and Shaw Optimum, and both are available now rather than on order.

Hardwood in Hillsborough

Hardwood is available to order rather than off the shelf, and in Hillsborough it tends to come up in the formal spaces of the larger colonials, or when someone is refinishing what is already under the carpet in an older house closer to Neshanic or Flagtown.

We carry Bruce, Mirage, Kährs, IndusParquet, Ferma and Expert by Elias Wilf. Because it is a special order, bring your timeline to the conversation early so we can tell you honestly what is realistic.

Laminate and tile are also available to order.
